Vardan Papoian, MD, believes in patient-centered medicine and understands that every situation and condition is different for each individual. He enjoys taking the time to listen to every patient and fully understand what is ailing them. His patients have continuously mentioned how they always felt informed and knowledgeable about their condition and the treatment options they had in the process. Making patients feel better and healthy is the most rewarding part of his job as a surgeon.

When Dr. Papoian meets a patient for the first time, he is interested in both the surgical problem and who they are as a person. He takes the time to properly prepare his patients for surgery to promote the best outcome and easiest recovery possible. He recognizes that undergoing surgery can be a scary and stressful experience, and he never wants a patient or their family to feel they are on the journey alone.

Born and raised in Southern California, Dr. Papoian moved to the Boston area for his medical education and continued his training in Washington, D.C., for 6 years. He received his Master’s Degree at Boston University School of Public Health and attended medical school at Boston University School of Medicine. Dr. Papoian completed his fellowship at MedStar Washington Hospital Center and surgical residency at MedStar Georgetown University-Washington Hospital Center. His practice includes performing both minimally invasive and traditional operations in a wide range of diseases.

Getting to Know Dr. Papoian:

Dr. Papoian is married to his high school sweetheart, and together they have four children, including triplet girls. He enjoys every moment spent with family, as well as gardening and playing tennis on his time off.
