Dr. Wanda Wilburn is a graduate of University of California, Los Angeles. She earned her medical degree at the University of California, Irvine, and she completed her Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at Emory School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia.

Dr. Wilburn was raised in San Diego, California, and resided in a predominantly African American community along with her four other siblings. She is a first and only generation physician among her family and relatives. An injury at the early age of 10 initiated her frequent exposure to the healthcare environment. She loved her physician but was also aware that there were few individuals in medicine who looked like her. This prompted her early career decision to become a physician. Over the course of time, several other health-related circumstances, all uniquely different, provided her access to learn from various providers about the commitment and time needed to become a physician. The increased exposure to the medical community and enlightenment from the providers only heightened her aspiration to become a physician.

In 1982, she made the decision to become a Physician Assistant, which furthered her vision to play a role in the delivery of patient care. As a Physician Assistant, she primarily managed Obstetrics and Gynecology patients. As her comfort and passion grew in managing these patients, she decided to pursue her original goal to become a physician at the age of 35 years. She firmly believes that God has directed her steps since that time.

“My career has taken me to almost every environment needed to become a knowledgeable and compassionate Women’s Healthcare Specialist,” said Dr. Wilburn. “I believe every physician should be a patient to truly empathize the patient experience. As I pursue my career journey, I have remained open to the changing character of patients and challenges facing the healthcare delivery system. I bring openness and drive to play an active role in providing care to marginalized communities,” added Dr. Wilburn.

Dr. Wilburn prides herself on her approachable bed-side manner and the delivery care in a transparent manner that does not intimidate the patient and promotes engaged healthy and healing conversations. She seizes every opportunity to teach on a level where the patient understands and is empowered to ask questions.

In her free time, Wanda enjoys golfing, spinning, dancing and theater arts.
